We went camping for the first time this year :)

We were getting antsy, knowing camping season was coming up and looking forward to it eagerly! So we decided we would go at the end of March (March 29-April 1).

So we spent a couple weeks sorting things and buying things, etc; and we attached the trailer and headed out on Wednesday, March 29. We got to camp about noonish, and set up. We spent a couple hours trying to set up an overhead tarp without trees to which to tie it, and finally gave up.

We all changed into swim clothes and headed for the creek! (Not very far away, just down a little “driveway”)… it was COLD!!! The air was beautiful (mid to upper 70sF) but the water was upper 40s/lower 50s I think [[BRRRR]]!!! I didn’t get all the way in on Wednesday. John Luke & I sat on the bank and just enjoyed the sun! I did put my feet in (and John Luke’s) a little bit. And later, I dredged a little and got pretty wet that way.

Wednesday night, it got COLD! We were glad we’d bought a tent-heater. It didn’t make the tent WARM, but it cut the cold a bit.

Thursday we got up and had breakfast (bacon & eggs & toast cooked on the campfire) and as soon as it was a little warm, the kids changed into their swim stuff again and hopped in. It got warmer during the day and I actually got almost all the way in the water playing with the kids. Brr. Cooked lunch & dinner over the campfire (I love cooking over a campfire!) and just enjoyed the fresh air.

Thursday night it wasn’t quite as cold, but we were still glad to have the heater.

Friday morning we got up and had to make a Wal*Mart run for charcoal (I’m fine with a wood fire, but Robby would rather we cook over charcoal ’cause it doesn’t take as long to get hot and stays hot longer)… we got back and shortly after that were told that we couldn’t camp in that location. Since our setup is elaborate enough that it isn’t worth it to pack up just to move, we went ahead and came home a day early.
